Nasal Carriage of Methicillin-Resistant – Aqsa and Others

Injudicious use of antibiotics promotes the emergence of resistant bacterial strains. Hospital-acquired MRSA causes almost 50% of nosocomial infections. It is a hospital-based study of the frequency of nasal carriage of MRSA strains in healthcare workers of SMCH, Lahore. Amongst 102 healthcare workers (HCWs), only 3(2.9%) HCWs were MRSA positive. They were treated with mupirocin nasal ointment with the aim to prevent the transmission and outbreaks of nosocomial MRSA infections.
